About OkConverter

OkConverter is an independently built collection of 298 free file conversion and utility tools, organised into 15 categories — images, PDFs, audio and video, data formats, developer utilities, text tools, calculators, and colour tools.

It exists because the obvious alternatives are worse than they need to be. Most online converters take your file, upload it to a server you know nothing about, process it there, and hold onto it for some unspecified period — all to perform a job your own browser has been capable of doing for years. That trade made sense a decade ago. It doesn't now.

How it works

Your files never leave your device

Every converter here runs entirely inside your browser, using WebAssembly and the browser's own imaging and file APIs. When you pick a file, it is read into memory on your own machine, converted there, and handed back to you. Nothing is uploaded, so there is no server copy to retain, leak, or be compelled to hand over. You can verify this yourself: open your browser's network tab and run any conversion. The handful of network checkers — DNS, SSL, WHOIS and the like — are the stated exception: they look up a public record through our server because a browser cannot, they say so on the page before you type, and they still never touch a file.

No accounts, no sign-up, no email wall

There is nothing to register for. No tool is gated behind an account, a trial, or a "free plan" with a file limit that appears once you're invested. If a page loads, the tool on it works.

It works offline, and it works on large files

Because the conversion happens locally, there is no upload to wait on and no file-size ceiling imposed by a server. A large video is limited by your own machine, not by someone's bandwidth bill.

Ads pay for it, and that is the whole business model

The site is free and supported by advertising. There is no premium tier, and your files and their contents are never part of what's monetised — they are never transmitted anywhere, so they could not be even if we wanted to. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what is and isn't collected.

Beyond the tools

Alongside the converters there arewritten guides covering the questions that come up around them — when to use SVG instead of PNG, what actually sits inside a JWT, how image compression trades detail for size, what the WCAG contrast numbers mean. They're written to be read on their own, not as padding around a download button.

The interface is available in English, Spanish, and German, and several tools can be embedded directly into your own page.

Who builds it

OkConverter is a small independent project, not a company with a support department. That has an upside and a downside: the upside is that feedback reaches the person who can act on it, and good bug reports genuinely change what gets built next. The downside is that replies can take a few days.
