Why percentages instead of millimetres?+

Because a PDF can mix page sizes, and a 20mm trim means something different on A4 than on US Letter or a landscape page. A percentage crops every page proportionally.

Is any content deleted?+

No. Cropping changes the visible area, it does not remove the underlying content — which is why a crop is reversible by another tool. If you need content genuinely gone, that is a different operation.

Does it affect printing?+

Yes, correctly. Both the crop box and the media box are updated, so a printer uses the trimmed size. Tools that set only the crop box look right on screen and then print with the original margins.

How much can I trim?+

Up to 45% from any single edge, which is the point past which opposite margins would meet and invert the page.
