“Compress a PDF” is really two different jobs, so this tool offers both and tells you what each costs. Lossless re-saves the document more efficiently and keeps every bit of text selectable and every vector sharp — savings are real but modest. Strong mode re-renders each page as an image, which shrinks scanned documents enormously and permanently removes selectable text. Lossless is the default, because silently turning someone’s contract into pictures is the wrong thing to do quietly. Everything runs in your browser, so the document never leaves your device.

Which mode should I use?+
Lossless first — it keeps the document fully intact. If the file is a scan or is mostly photographs and still will not fit your limit, switch to Strong. If your PDF is mostly text and already small, no tool will shrink it much, because there is little redundancy left to remove.
Why did lossless mode barely change the size?+
Because the PDF was already well optimised. Lossless compression removes redundancy — duplicate objects, uncompressed streams — and a file produced by a modern exporter has little of that. It is not a failure; there was nothing to discard without losing data.
What exactly does Strong mode destroy?+
Selectable and searchable text, embedded fonts, vector sharpness at high zoom, and any form fields or annotations. Each page becomes a JPEG. For a scanned document that is no loss at all, since the “text” was already an image. For a text PDF it is a significant one.
Is there a page limit?+
Strong mode handles up to 300 pages, since every page is rendered on your own device rather than on a server — which takes real time and memory.
Is my PDF uploaded?+
No. Both modes run entirely on your device. That is the main reason to use this over a server-side compressor — the documents people most need to shrink are usually the ones they least want to upload.
