Frequently asked questions
What is this actually useful for?+
Turning a video you already have captions for into something readable or searchable — show notes, a blog post draft, a summary to feed elsewhere, or simply reading an interview faster than watching it. It is also the quickest way to get a transcript without paying for transcription, when captions already exist.
Why are some lines missing from my transcript?+
Consecutive identical lines are collapsed. Subtitle files commonly repeat the same text across two cues so it stays on screen through a shot change, and keeping both would produce visible duplication. Switch to "one line per cue" if you need an exact cue-for-cue copy.
Can I keep the timestamps?+
Yes — choose the timestamped option and each line is prefixed with its start time. Useful for citing a moment in the video, or for cross-checking against the original.
Does it work with WebVTT and ASS?+
Yes. The format is detected from the file itself, so SRT, WebVTT, ASS/SSA and SBV all work without choosing anything. ASS override tags are stripped along with the timings.
