Frequently asked questions

Is my text uploaded anywhere?+

No. Counting happens entirely in your browser as you type. Nothing is sent to a server, so it’s safe for unpublished drafts and confidential text.

How is reading time calculated?+

OkConverter estimates reading time at roughly 200 words per minute, a commonly used average adult silent-reading speed, rounded up to the nearest minute.

How are sentences and paragraphs counted?+

A sentence is a chunk of text ending in “.”, “!” or “?” that contains at least one letter or digit (so trailing punctuation alone doesn’t count). A paragraph is any block of text separated by a blank line.

Do emoji and accented characters count correctly?+

Yes. Characters are counted by Unicode code point, so emoji and accented letters each count as one character rather than being split into multiple bytes.
