Frequently asked questions
Does this send anything to a server?+
No. Every browser ships the complete IANA time-zone database, including past and future daylight-saving rules, and exposes it through the Intl API — so there is nothing a server could add. The other tools in this category query DNS and certificates because a page genuinely cannot; this one can, so it does, and no meeting time of yours leaves the page.
Why not just add or subtract hours?+
Because the offset between two places is not constant. The United States and Europe change clocks on different dates, so New York and London are five hours apart for most of the year and four for two weeks in March. Southern-hemisphere zones move the opposite way, and several places — Arizona, most of Asia — do not change at all. A fixed offset is right until the fortnight it silently is not.
What does the overlap line mean?+
The hours of that day, in your own zone, at which every participant is inside the working window. If it says none, there is no polite hour and somebody has to take the call early or late — which is worth knowing before you send the invitation rather than after.
Which time zone should I choose for a country?+
Pick the city, not the country. The United States spans six zones, Brazil four, and Australia three with different DST rules between states. "Sydney" and "Brisbane" agree for half the year and differ for the other half.
What about the hour that does not exist?+
On the spring-forward date, the clock jumps and one local hour never occurs. Asked for a time inside that gap, this lands on the instant immediately after the jump, which is what calendar software does. The autumn repeat, where an hour happens twice, resolves to the first of the two.
