How much smaller will the MP3 be than the FLAC?+
Substantially — lossless FLAC typically runs 500–1000 kbps, while this tool encodes MP3 at around 190 kbps, so files often shrink to roughly a fifth to a third of the original size.
Is the quality loss noticeable?+
For almost all listeners and equipment, no. The MP3 is encoded at LAME VBR quality 2 (~190 kbps), which is considered transparent — though the very detail that makes FLAC ideal for archiving is, by definition, partly discarded.
Will I lose quality converting lossless FLAC to lossy MP3?+
Yes, some quality is inherently lost — MP3 is a lossy format, so this is a one-way trade of some fidelity for universal compatibility and a much smaller file size. Keep your original FLAC if you want a lossless archive.
