Does this restore the quality MP3 threw away?+

No, and no tool can. The discarded detail is not stored anywhere in the MP3. You get a lossless copy of the compressed audio — everything present is preserved perfectly from here on, but nothing lost is coming back.

Then why would I do this?+

Two honest reasons. Some software only ingests lossless formats, and if you plan several rounds of editing, working in FLAC stops each save from degrading the audio further the way re-saving an MP3 does.

Will the file get bigger?+

Yes, usually several times bigger. FLAC cannot compress as hard as MP3 because it is not allowed to discard anything. Expect a 4 MB MP3 to land somewhere in the 15–25 MB range.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?+

No. Once the engine has loaded, the whole conversion happens inside your browser tab.
