Frequently asked questions

Will this improve the quality?+

No, and nothing can. Detail your MP3 already discarded is gone for good, and re-encoding to Vorbis throws away a little more on top. Convert only when you need the format — if the original WAV or FLAC still exists, convert from that instead.

Will the file get smaller?+

Roughly the same, sometimes slightly smaller. Both are lossy formats at comparable bitrates, so there is no real size win here — the reason to convert is compatibility with Vorbis-only software.

Vorbis or Opus?+

This tool writes Vorbis, since that is what tools asking for .ogg normally expect. Opus is technically the better modern codec but is not accepted everywhere .ogg is.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?+
