How much smaller will the JPG be?+
Usually dramatically. An uncompressed TIFF stores several bytes per pixel regardless of content, so a photo scan that runs to tens of megabytes as TIFF typically lands in the low megabytes as JPG at high quality.
Is any quality lost?+
Some, unavoidably — JPG is a lossy format. OkConverter encodes at 92% quality, which is visually indistinguishable from the original for photographs and scans. If you need an exact copy, use TIFF to PNG instead: PNG is lossless.
What happens to transparency?+
JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent areas are flattened onto white. If you need transparency preserved, convert to PNG.
What about a multi-page TIFF?+
