Frequently asked questions

What happens to transparent areas?+

JPEG has no transparency, so transparent pixels are flattened onto a white background. If you need transparency preserved, convert to WebP instead.

How much smaller will the JPG be?+

For photos and screenshots, typically 5–10× smaller than the PNG. For flat graphics with few colors the savings are smaller — PNG is often already efficient there.

Does converting reduce quality?+

JPEG is lossy, but OkConverter encodes at 92% quality, which is visually indistinguishable from the original for almost all images.

Are my files uploaded?+

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser on your device. Your image is never uploaded, stored, or logged.
